I Call It

“I call it, the Zen Master said”

“I call it,” the Zen Master said,

“‘cosmic irrelevance.’

Could anything be more comforting?

It’s a scatter-shot universe,

and here we are

eating our sandwiches,

lettuce and tomato,

sometimes swiss cheese and ham,

with yellow mustard,

pale mayonnaise,

red catsup,

green relish,

on wheat or pumpernickel,

oatmeal, sour dough, rye.”
